MARKHAM TO HOST CANADA’S LARGEST PROVINCIAL DODGEBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 13, 2020 (Markham, ON) — Dodgeball athletes from across the province will be competing at Markham Pan Am Centre this Family Day weekend in Dodgeball Ontario’s Provincial Dodgeball Championships. Over 30 teams comprised of more than 250 of Ontario’s best competitive dodgeball players from Ottawa, London, Toronto, North Bay, and beyond will be bringing teamwork, passion, and fierce gameplay to this must-see tournament.
Dodgeball Ontario is the host of the two-day tournament, which is the largest provincial championship tournament in Canada—resulting in six men’s teams and four women’s teams earning a trip to the National Dodgeball Championships being held in Edmonton, Alberta in April. These two tournaments will determine the athletes from across the country chosen to represent Canada at the World Dodgeball Championships taking place in Glasgow, United Kingdom in September.
Dodgeball is one of the fastest growing sports in Canada and Ontario leads the way, offering close to 30 leagues in cities and towns from north to south, including nearby leagues hosted by Dodgeball Toronto and Downtown Dodgeball. Teens and adults of all skill levels are attracted to the sport for the exercise, camaraderie, and competition. “Anyone can play dodgeball, regardless of your background in sports,” says Steve Hickson, President of the Dodgeball Ontario Board of Directors. “It’s easy to pick up and accessible to those who just want to have fun, but it can also be a very exciting competitive game full of athleticism and strategy, like what we’ll see this weekend at the Provincial Dodgeball Championships.”
For anyone interested in watching live games, the tournament will take place February 15 and 16, 2020 from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. ET at the Markham Pan Am Centre and there is no admission fee. More information can be found on the Provincial Dodgeball Championships Facebook event.
